Day 3: We Made It
Okay, so clearly we made it through days one and two. Day three was all downhill and headed toward the town of Ollantaymbo (see Sacred Valley post) as our final destination. Day three brought renewed energy and the realization that we had almost conquered this trek and would soon be headed to Machu Picchu. In the pic above, we’re headed to below the clouds where the mountains come together.
Day three of the trek was all downhill- no for real, all downhill. No more climbing and we were going down all morning long. Day three was only four-ish hours of hiking. We started out with breakfast at camp then headed out. One thing I noticed throughout the trek is that there’s no real “trail”. Alex knew the treks by heart, but no signs, no real trails to tell you where to go. Hence, why you need a guide with you.
Downhill might be a good thing, but when it’s these little rocks all the way down it is hard. Lots of skidding your way down and hoping your toes aren’t running into the end of your shoes all day. When we got below the clouds we worked out way down actual trails, including some shortcuts that Alex knew. It was fun working our way down in a different way.
