Have vaccine, will travel!
For us, not traveling outside the country for over a year is strange. We have travelled and flown to other places over the last year, but not internationally. So, where’d we head first? PERU!
Peru is so not the answer most people think they are going to get to that question. Over and over, when colleagues asked what i was doing during my time off I was met with a lot of surprise. Specifically, we came to Peru to hike Machu Picchu. YAY!
I have a few friends who have celebrated milestone birthdays by trekking up to Machu Picchu and the hiking on the surrounding trails. I can’t remember when I told BK this was what I wanted to do, but regardless, he made it happen. I’m sure, like everyone else around the world, we did not think we’d still be under COVID restrictions over a year later. We were not sure if we’d be able to make the trip, but fortunately Peru opened up for tourism about a month ago, just after March 15.
The other comment I frequently got, especially after my close friends found out what kind of trip this would be is so this is not a relaxing trip? Correct. This is not a relaxing trip. But for those of you who know BK and me, laying on the beach kind of trips are not really our thing. I’m looking forward to exploring, seeing and experiencing a new country and culture.
I’ll tell you more about our itinerary and plans later, but for now this is my attempt at getting started again on the blog. Even though we live close to family and friends now, I’m starting again because in looking back on things I realized what a good virtual scrapbook this is. So many memories and stories are kept here, and even if our kids never look back on it, I really enjoy getting lost in the blog and recalling lots of places we’ve been, experiences we’ve had and milestones that have happened to our family.
Maybe I’ll try to go back and catch up, and maybe not. Maybe I’ll capture adventures in 2021- not sure yet. 2021 is starting to look a little bit more familiar for us, as we’re headed to the beach with family (two times, both sides), will likely take the kids somewhere and will hopefully make our annual trip to Cali to ring in 2022. Away we go!
